IVF Treatment
What is IVF Treatment?
In vitro fertilization (IVF), or in vitro fertilization, is the process of artificially fertilizing an egg by a sperm outside the body (in vitro). IVF is an important treatment method used when other assisted reproductive methods have failed in the treatment of infertility.
The IVF process can be summarized as following a woman's ovulation process, taking the egg from the ovaries and fertilizing it with sperm in the laboratory, and then transferring the fertilized egg (zygote) back to the patient's uterus to create a successful pregnancy.
Steps
Stimulation of the ovaries and maturation of the eggs, Egg collection (OPU), Fertilization (fertilization), Embryo transfer, Pregnancy test
Risks
Multiple pregnancy , Ovarian torsion, Infection , Bleeding, Ectopic pregnancy
Situations where IVF can be applied
Infertility, Congestion of both tubes, Egg disorder,
Absence of sperm in the semen, Quality defect in sperm,
Immunological conditions, Cervical factors,
Removal of tubes as a result of surgical operation,
Insufficient sperm or egg count
Presence of cysts in the ovary that cause infertility,
Hormone disorder, Sperm motility problems,
Sperm cell deformity, Repeated pregnancy losses,
When pregnancy cannot be achieved despite regular and unprotected sexual intercourse for 12 months,
IVF can be applied if there is aging in women.
Situations where IVF is not possible
No sperm production
Complete loss of egg production function, Menopause,
Hormone level disorders in women, Progression of women's age
In vitro fertilization cannot be applied to women who have had their womb removed as a result of surgical operations.
Success rate
Although IVF success rates differ from country to country, the approximate success rate is 40% worldwide. Factors such as the expectant mother's age, weight and health status affect success. Failure the first time does not mean that it will be the same in other attempts.
Although the chance of success in IVF applications does not exceed 60 percent, it can be seen that pregnancy occurs after a few unsuccessful attempts. Even in couples who have no health problems, IVF applications can be seen to be unsuccessful. In the same couples, pregnancy can occur in subsequent attempts.
